Oud Abramad

At dusk, the palace gates close. The pale marble still holds the day's stifling heat. Suddenly, the garden seems to calm, and the trees open their arms. The desert night advances beneath the arcades, and the garden is as if encircled by dark alcoves. Someone passes silently in the falling darkness. One hears the muffled rustle of fabric rippling like a cape, the subtle sound of leather developing a patina. The slow, stately figure moves through the silent garden. Perhaps it is Abramad. A heavy door opens, letting in a sliver of light. A proud shadow stretches across the stone in the golden light. It vanishes. One must look up at the seven palace windows, open like great black eyes. In the silent darkness, someone stands there, facing the desert.
