In 1983, at the request of Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud al-Busaidi, then Minister of the Royal Court's Diwan, founded the Amouage company with the aim of reviving the Arab tradition of luxury perfumes. Their first fragrance, launched in 1984 under the same name, was created by Guy Robert, a perfumer from Grasse, the French perfume capital.
A 40% concentrated perfume extract, Interlude Woman is a chypre floral fragrance that evokes an interlude of unity and serenity. The sweetness of bergamot and the bitterness of grapefruit in the top notes (along with ginger and marigold) create a playful tension. Rose, incense, jasmine, orange blossom, helichrysum, opoponax, and sandalwood form the heart, then are masked with an unconventional combination of nut, coffee, kiwi, honey, and agarwood. A rich base of vanilla, benzoin, amber, sandalwood, oakmoss, leather, tonka bean, and musk adds warmth to the fragrance's contrasting accords. Perfumer: Karine Vinchon Spehner. Amouage's signature bottles are colored a rich and captivating midnight blue with gold-plated decorations, accented with a sapphire blue Swarovski crystal. The outer packaging is designed in bright colors that show an ordered chaos in the abstract and conceptual representation.
