At 430 King's Road, London, in Vivienne Westwood's SEX store, that's where it all began. Hip, bleached-blond youths traded rare vinyl records. Worn denim, hand-painted leather, latex, tartans, prints that would make your parents blush and lock you up at home all summer... Did Punk invent fashion, or did fashion invent Punk? From underground clubs to national television, Punk has always had its own style, its own press (fanzines), its own films, its own poetry... It had to have its own scent. Strong like rehearsals in the uninsulated room. Powerful like a youth riot, yet always soft and romantic—the idealism of adolescence wrapped in a heavy leather jacket.
